BBQ'd Sauce with Garbanzo Beans

The garbanzo beans in this “sauce” really help to add fiber and protein.  Use it as a spread on sandwiches (like this one!), as a weirdly-colored dip, or eaten straight – tastes best with a spoon.  Either way, enjoy!

BBQ’d Sauce with Garbanzo Beans

5 Tablespoons cooked garbanzo beans or chickpeas (fully drained and slightly smashed)
5 Tablespoons water
2 Tablespoons tomato paste
1 and 1/2 to 2 Tablespoons molasses (depending on how sweet you like it)
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon distilled white vinegar
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon ground paprika
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
salt and pepper, to taste

Directions: combine all ingredients into a blender and *blend* until smooth, OR desired consistency is reached.  Season with salt and pepper.  Use with this sandwich for a Louisiana staple: Po-Boy.
