The Difference Between Handfuls and Another Green Shake

Oh yea; I’m actually posting this.  I feel like I’ve been using more “handful” measurements than actual measuring cup *measurements* here lately.  And honestly, it’s really easy to do that when smoothies are involved.  Or salads.  Or pretty much anywhere you’d use your hands in order to side-step having to wash another dish.

And then they appear – the overachiever and the average.  The “I want it all” versus the “I just want to get the job done.”  Essentially, the difference between the large handful and the small is how much work you put into it.  Consider a small handful an average grab and a large handful an overzealous snatch, like when you’re reaching for *all the chips before the next person can get to them.

Note: the following recipe was measured using “small handfuls” instead of large, so don’t get grabby.

Another Green Smoothie

2 handfuls kale
1 handful cucumber slices
1 handful green leaf lettuce
1 banana
1-2 teaspoons sweetener (optional)
1 Tablespoon ground chia seeds (optional)
1 cup vanilla flavored “milk” (I used almond)
1/2 cup water
4-5 ice cubes

Directions: Place all ingredients in the blender (with the ice last!) and blend until smooth.  Sweeten with some agave or honey, if desired.

Makes: 2 servings
